We are glad to welcome Will to our Edinburgh office. Here he tells us a little bit about himself and shares some of his previous work.
William graduated with a Master of Architecture from Newcastle University. Having previously worked for a micro-practice in his hometown of Tunbridge Wells, Will has sought to gain professional experience across a range of projects throughout the UK. As a result Will now has experience in residential, masterplanning and urban design.
Will’s interest in architecture lies in material and details, and his thesis involved the inversion of the design process, starting with the material bamboo, rather than to see material as a final consideration.
“This thesis was a critical reflection of the response by NGO's during the Ebola outbreak in West Africa in 2014. The form of the clinics created dangerous stigma, in their resonance with the colonial history of West Africa. The project involved an obsessive investigation into material, utilising the abundant but rarely used West African material bamboo, including a comprehensive construction manual and system. My intervention looks to reinitiate the traditional rituals and festivals, in order to reinstate dignity and trust to the burial.” William Whiter
