Phoenicia Hotel

Kettle Collective was approached to propose an extension to the Phoenicia Hotel in Malta. This 1930’s scheduled building has a unique site of over 40000 sqm located at the entrance of Valletta, city listed in the Unesco World Heritage, with exclusive views over the Mediterranean harbour.
The creation of a boutique hotel was suggested to complement the existing hotel, with 41 bedroom keys and amenities developed at the bottom of Valletta’s fortifications. Existing building shells would be restored sympathetically into an attractive mergence of historic and modern architecture. New built valley pavilions would offer flexible accommodations of one, two or three bedrooms, all arranged to maximise the sunlights in an enclave site.
The last part of the scheme proposed the reconversion of the derelict waterfront historical baths into a complex of three articulated blocks of 24 keys, a seafront restaurant, a rooftop bar and access to the beach. Guests would enjoy the luxury of private apartments with individual plunge pools in a unique envelope mixing the old and the new, the historical and the contemporary.
